Depanoto had not the right size brake cylinders and I could not find another company who could supply a suitable solutions.
This month I found the right specialist who could overhaul the original brake cylinders with stainless steel sleeves.
The company is called Past Parts in the UK and each overhaul starts by stripping the cylinder into components parts. Parts are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, using biodegradable water-soluble fluid.
Castings are then transferred tot the shot-blasting area to remove all corrosion. A 3-tonne tumbler cleans off oxidation and any spots left are removed in a smaller cabinet with a viewing window.
Clean castings go to the machine shop, where each is measured to establish bore diameter and length of machining needed for fitment. Each sleeve is trail hand-fitted during machining. Tubing used to sleeve brake components is 29 210 stainless and these have to be honed to provide a cross-hatch surface finish.
Bodies are finished in powder coat or passivated zinc, then the it is reassembled with new seals before final pressure testing.
They did a great job and the turnaround time was less than two weeks and the price of the overhaul was £ 35,- per cylinder. www.pastparts.co.uk
